Program Information
How to Apply?
What application do I complete?
To begin, you will need to complete a SSC Online Degree Programs Admission Application.
Note: This is to be admitted to SSC, not the Nursing program. Once we establish you met the criteria to apply, you will be sent the LPN to RN Online Application.
What courses do you need before applying?
You have to have the following with C's or better:
- Principles of Biology
- Human Anatomy (could be Human A&P I)
- Human Physiology (could be Human A&P II)
- Microbiology
We offer all of these courses online so let us know if you need to enroll! You must also have a 2.5 GPA in your general education courses to apply.
If you have already taken these courses at another school, submit your transcripts for review.
Do I need to take any tests to apply?
Yes. You must take the HESI LPN-ADN Entrance Exam and score an 850 or better.
If you've taken the test previously, your score is good for 1 year from the date of the test.
The SSC Testing Center offers the HESI both online and in-person. Click here for costs, scheduling information and study guides.
What other classes do I need for my degree?
US Government English Comp II
US History General Psychology
English Comp I Learning Strategies
We offer all of these courses online so let us know if you need to enroll! You must also have a 2.5 GPA in your general education courses to apply.
If you have already taken these courses at another school, submit your transcripts for review.
Note: The Nursing department prefers these to be done prior to applying, but it is not required.
How does the LPN to RN admissions work?
You are assigned points based on grades, ACT Math and Reading scores (if you have them) and your time working as a LPN/LVN. The students with the highest points are offered a seat in the program.
Click here for a break down of the point system. (pg. 1 - 2)
What other tasks I should complete?
This program is Federal Financial Aid eligible. You can complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.studentaid.gov to see if you qualify.
If you don't have ACT scores that were from the past 5 years, you can take the ACT at the SSC Testing Center. Email testing@sscok.edu for more info. (Remember, ACT scores are not required, but do gain you points.)
