SSC Representatives Present at Prague Career Fair
Seminole State College Professor of English Jessica Isaacs (left) and STEM Student Suport Services Adviser Kristen Bean presented at the Prague High School Career Fair March 27. Bean provided information to students about careers in Higher Education, as well as different programs at SSC. Isaacs spoke about being a college professor and the different programs and events within the Language Arts and Humanities Division at the College.
SSC Hosts Regional Speech Tournament
Seminole State College hosted its third speech and debate tournament of the academic year on March 15 and 16. The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association’s Southeast Regional was the largest tournament this season, bringing in 16 schools and 293 students and coaches.
The action began 9:00 a.m. Friday and continued with debate rounds through 8:00 p.m. The events continued most of the day Saturday with speeches and acting events until the awards assembly, where performers filled the Jeff Johnston Auditorium to await the results.

PLC Visit National Weather Center
National Weather Center
The Seminole State College President’s Leadership Class traveled to Norman on March 12 to visit the National Weather Center. During their visit, the SSC students toured the multi-level facility and saw storm vehicles, equipment and other technology used out in the field and at the center to predict and track the weather. While there, they also learned about the OU School of Meteorology and the types of jobs available with a major in that field of study.
Science on a Sphere
PLC student Hannah Lay of Earlsboro pretends to balance the “Science on a Sphere”– a 6-foot-diameter hollow fiberglass sphere located inside the atrium of the National Weather Center in Norman. A popular feature of the sphere is showing a month of weather in motion within just a few minutes.
SSC Named Certified Healthy Campus
Seminole State College recently received a 2018 Award of Excellence from Certified Healthy Oklahoma. The College was recognized as a Certified Healthy Campus at CHO’s annual awards event, hosted in partnership with The Journal Record. The Certified Healthy Oklahoma program showcases businesses, campuses, communities, congregations, early childhood programs, restaurants, and schools that are committed to supporting healthy choices through environmental and policy change. These entities work to improve the health of Oklahomans by implementing elements, policies, and programs that will help Oklahomans to eat better, move more, and be tobacco free. Several professional women and current college students recently shared their success stories in a program entitled “Women in STEM: We are Unstoppable!” The program was provided to encourage young women to consider a career in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. SSC Creative Symposium Receives Donation
The Seminole State College Language Arts and Humanities Division recently received a donation of $500 to aid in the continuation of its annual Howlers and Yawpers Creativity Symposium.
