Seminole State College sophomore Connor Buchanan, of Seminole, was recently named the Outstanding Language Arts and Humanities Student for the 2019-2020 academic year. The Seminole State Educational Foundation honors one student from each of the College’s five divisions at its annual Spring Recognition Banquet. Due to restrictions on large gatherings in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s event has been postponed, but each student will be recognized at a later date.
Buchanan graduated from Varnum High School. He is studying language arts at SSC.
“Being a full-time student, it’s always a challenge to keep up with all the work and campus activities,” Buchanan said. “I just roll with the punches and do the best I can.”
Buchanan credits the professors and staff at SSC for encouraging him and keeping him on track.
“The best part of attending SSC has been the people. Whether it’s the classmates, the teachers, or any kind of staff at the college, the people at SSC have been great,” Buchanan said.
His favorite instructor at the College is Associate Professor of English Kelli McBride.
“I’ve taken her every semester I’ve been here for at least one class,” Buchanan said.
Buchanan is a member of the President’s Leadership Class.
Upon graduating, he plans to pursue a degree in journalism at a 4-year university.
