Alex Dickson and Francisco Bustos-Hernandez, nursing students at Seminole State College, each recently received a $1000 AllianceHealth Seminole Women’s Volunteer Auxiliary Scholarship. The auxiliary, also known as the “Pink Ladies,” is a volunteer organization dedicated to assisting the hospital and patients.
The organization sponsors a scholarship program to assist students entering into health related careers every year. “We are so proud to be honored by the Pink Ladies each year. They truly impact the lives of our nursing students with these scholarships,” Valarie Watts, Program Director for the SSC Nursing Program, said.
Dickson resides in Prague. She is a second year nursing student at the college. Dickson is the daughter of Kerry and Tracey Dickson. She plans to graduate in May with her ADN and pursue a career in emergency medicine with SSM Health.
Bustos-Hernandez is from Greenville, South Carolina and currently resides in Shawnee. He is also a second year nursing student at SSC with plans to graduate in May. He is the son of Yudera Bustos. Bustos-Hernandez has an interest in emergency medicine and plans to further his education to a BSN following graduation from Seminole State College.Beyond providing scholarships, the “Pink Ladies” impact patients’ lives in a positive way through visitation, deliveries and managing the gift shop. Their services reach far beyond the hospital setting to impact the community as a whole.
