SSC Hosts Ribbon Cutting for Food Pantry and Help Center

Seminole State College hosted a ribbon cutting to commemorate the opening of its Food Pantry and Help Center on Oct. 24 at the Boren Library.

Close to 100 community members, faculty, staff and students attended the reception and toured the facilities.

Seminole State College sophomore and Student Government Association President Tijah Johnson, of Shawnee, cuts the ribbon to commemorate the opening of the SSC Food Pantry and Help Center in the lobby of the Boren Library on Oct. 24. The reception was attended by a number of the College’s Regents, faculty, staff, students and community members.

The SSC Food Pantry held its soft opening on Oct. 15. Since that time, it has helped a number of students facing food insecurity challenges. The Food Pantry received a series of major donations from community members to help kick start the program and more than 60 of the College’s employees have signed up for payroll deductions to help sustain the program.

The SSC Food Pantry is open to students from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Tuesday and Friday. If you are interested in giving to the SSC food pantry or volunteering, you may contact Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Bill Knowles at b.knowles@sscok.edu or 405-382-9272.

The SSC Help Center provides support to students facing mental health issues, seeking counseling referrals or in need of guidance on their academic careers. To make an appointment with the SSC Help Center, students should call SSC Help Center Coordinator and Associate Professor Christal Knowles at 405-382-9207 or email helpcenter@sscok.edu.
