SSC Board of Regents Approves Partnership with SPS for Ag Education Farm

The Seminole State College Board of Regents approved a partnership with Seminole Public Schools for the development of an agricultural education farm at the Pleasant Grove School property at their meeting on May 16.

The meeting began with a report of SSC’s finances from Vice President for Fiscal Affairs Melanie Rinehart. Then President Lana Reynolds discussed campus events, personnel changes and postseason athletics.

With the first item of business, the Board approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between SSC and Seminole Public Schools for the development and use of the Pleasant Grove School site for an agriculture education farm. The SPS Board approved the MOU at their meeting on May 14.

“We’re excited about the possibilities of this project, and we are very appreciative of Seminole Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Bob Gragg and his staff for allowing us to be a part of this program,” President Reynolds said. “We also want to thank the Pleasant Grove Alumni Association for their investment in renovating the gym at the site. Both Seminole Public Schools and the College look forward to working alongside alumni in the further development of the property.”

With the second item on the agenda, the Board accepted the resignation of Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Amanda Estey. Dr. Estey began her role at SSC on July1, 2022. She will continue to work for the College until mid-June to finalize projects and reports for SSC’s accrediting body, the Higher Learning Commission, and the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.

“We appreciate all the contributions Dr. Estey made as our Chief Academic Officer,” President Reynolds said. “Her commitment to excellence and her hard work have greatly benefitted our institution. We wish her the very best in her future endeavors.”

Board members present at the meeting were: Chair Kim Hyden, Marci Donaho, Curtis Morgan, Ryan Pitts and Robyn Ready. The next meeting of the SSC Board of Regents is scheduled for Thursday, June 20, 2024.
