Seminole State College faculty returned for winter in-service training on Friday, Jan. 6 in the Enoch Kelly Haney Center on campus. Instructors were welcomed to the event by President Lana Reynolds and training sessions were held throughout the day. The spring semester will begin Monday, Jan. 9 and enrollment is open through Jan. 13.
A panel discussion on human trafficking awareness will be presented in two separate programs Thursday, Jan. 12 on the campus of Seminole State College. A program for SSC students, SSC employees and area high school students will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the Jeff Johnston Fine Arts Auditorium. The event is free, open to the public and being held in honor of National Human Trafficking Prevention Month.

Seminole State College’s spring semester is set to begin Monday, Jan. 9. Special extended office hours will take place to provide students extra time and flexibility to enroll for the 2023 spring semester. While classes begin Jan. 9, enrollment remains open for the spring semester through Jan. 13.
Extended enrollment hours will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Jan. 5; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7.
For help with enrollment, students may visit with advisors in person inside the Walkingstick Student Services Center – located just on Highway 9 on the south side of campus – or call 405-382-9797. Current students may enroll with their assigned academic advisor.
In addition to the regular term courses, SSC also offers online, 8-week, evening and Saturday courses. Class schedules are available on the College’s website at sscok.edu.

Starting on Veterans Day, November 11 through Nov. 30, SSC students, faculty, staff, community supporters, and administration signed thank you and happy holiday messages on festive cards, which in turn were delivered to veterans in the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City. This year more than 200 cards were signed with heartfelt notes of appreciation and holiday cheer.

Ms. Overfield expressed her thanks on behalf of the patients and those who volunteer at the hospital.
Professor Osby said, “This project is so appreciated by the veterans and is a small way spread some holiday cheer while sharing our heartfelt appreciation for their sacrifices and service. How fortunate we are to all veterans at this special time of year and always.”
Seminole State College held a pinning ceremony at the Enoch Kelly Haney Center on Dec. 8 for 25 nursing students expected to meet degree requirements this semester.
Due to the program’s continued growth, this marked the fourth year the College has hosted a pinning ceremony in the fall. Graduates from both the traditional program and the fully online program that launched last year participated in the program.
The Seminole State College Shooting Sports Club hosted its Second Annual Fundraiser Shoot on Dec. 2. The event took place at Clay Bird Sports in Bethel Acres and featured more than 40 teams, competing in High School Junior, High School Senior, and Open divisions for Sporting Clays. Seminole State Agriculture Assistant Professor Wendy Rich and Social Sciences Professor Jeffrey Christiansen serve as the club’s faculty sponsors and organized the event, along with club members Turner Dean, Mark Ellis, and Logan Jones. Proceeds from the fundraiser will allow the club to compete in regional and national competitions.

Seminole State College employees recently provided gifts to 26 children participating in the Angel Tree programs sponsored by the Salvation Army and the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. The Angel Tree program connects donors with children in need. SSC employees purchased clothing and toys and donated the items. Providing gifts to children in the Angel Tree program has been an annual tradition at SSC since 1997. Two Seminole State College employees were recognized for their hard work and dedication during the monthly Seminole Chamber of Commerce Forum on Dec. 8. Assistant Professor of Art Lynette Atchley was honored as “Faculty Member of the Month” and NASNTI Student Support Specialist Kay Wallace as “Staff Member of the Month.”

Seminole State College student-athletes and coaches volunteered their time this week to wrap more than 200 gifts for the annual Earl Knowles free community Christmas dinner, organized by the Seminole Rotary Club.
The presents wrapped by SSC athletes will be distributed at the community dinner on Sunday, December 25 at the Senior Citizen’s Heritage House at 210 W. College. Arrangements may also be made to have the gifts and meals delivered to homes by calling 405-382-3640 prior to Christmas Eve.
Seminole State College hosted its annual Night at the Lights event on Dec. 5 at Magnolia Park in Seminole. Local families enjoyed the community Snowman Wonderland light display, as well as cookies and hot chocolate provided by the College. Dozens of SSC student athletes manned crafting stations inside the Reynolds Wellness Center, helping children create crafts.
