Flores Honored for 500 Wins at SSC

Trojan Softball Coach Amber Flores was honored on April 18 for her recent 500th career win at Seminole State College.

On Saturday, April 6, Flores won her 500th game at the helm of the SSC program. The 4 -1 win against Eastern Oklahoma State in Wilburn brought her overall record at Seminole to 500 wins against 104 losses.

In recognition of this milestone a pre-game presentation was held prior to the Trojans facing the Connors State Cowgirls Thursday afternoon at the SSC home field. Participating in the ceremony at home plate were SSC Athletic Director Leslie Sewell, owner of the OKC Spark professional women’s softball team Tina Floyd, SSC President Lana Reynolds and Chair of the SSC Board of Regents Kim Hyden.

SSC Leadership Students Lend a Hand with Campus Cleanup

In an early observance of Earth Day, Seminole State College President’s Leadership Class members heard from environmentalist and filmmaker K.C. Shulberg, watched a screening of his documentary “The Urgency of Now” and then picked up trash across the SSC campus. “The Urgency of Now” explores the destruction of Hurricane Ian and features interviews with scientists, educators and public officials about the effects of climate change.

Seminole State College Trojan softball players joined members of A League of Their Own at the Avedis Foundation Adaptive Field, located within the Brian Crawford Memorial Sports Complex on April 8. The League is a co-ed softball league established to provide an avenue for individuals with cognitive or physical disabilities to play baseball. Prior to her game, Emma Bilyeu of Prague (right) had to stop and say hello to SSC Softball Head Coach Amber Flores (left).

Solar Eclipse Watch Party Held at SSC

Seminole State College students, faculty and staff gathered outside the E.T. Dunlap Student Union for a solar eclipse watch party on April 8. Everyone in attendance was given a pair of glasses designed to protect their eyes for the direct observation of the sun.

Sign-Ups Now Open for SSC’s Kids on Campus Summer Camps

Seminole State College will host its annual Kids on Campus summer camps for children and teens aged 5 to 17 across two sessions, offering a variety of activities. The camp is hosted by SSC’s Business and Industry program.

The first session of the camp will run from June 24 to June 27, with the second session scheduled from July 8 to July 11. Classes run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Individual camps take place in either the morning or afternoon. Lunch is available at the Student Union on campus, and lunch is free for participants of the all-day camp. The price of each camp ranges from $50 to $90, and an all-week option is available for $250. Each session features a range of themed camps tailored to different interests and age groups, including Outdoor, STEM, Lego, Ceramics and Art camps.
