The Seminole State College Board of Regents swore in a new member, selected officers and approved a policy revision at their meeting on July 18.
The meeting commenced with the formal swearing-in of new Regent Teresa Burnett. The oath of office was administered by her husband, Brad Burnett, Vice President of Enrollment Management at Oklahoma Baptist University and former Associate Vice President of Student Financial Services at the University of Oklahoma.
Teresa Burnett’s appointment was confirmed by the Oklahoma State Senate Education Committee on May 21. Burnett operates Drama Club Connection in Shawnee, which helps children learn how to effectively communicate through the arts. Three of her children are graduates of SSC.
Next SSC President Lana Reynolds presented her report to the Board. She provided updates on personnel, enrollment and upcoming campus activities.
With the first item on the agenda, the Board held its election of officers. Regent Curtis Morgan was named Chair. Morgan was first appointed to the Board in 2013 by Governor Mary Fallin.
Next, the Board approved a revision to Board Policy II-1-3 regarding the Regents’ meeting schedule. The existing policy mandates that the SSC Board of Regents meet on the third Thursday of each month. The proposed amendment sought to provide greater flexibility in scheduling, accommodating holidays and other events that may arise. This revision was approved.
On the consent agenda, the Board ratified the purchase of 2024-2025 Intercollegiate Sports Accident Insurance, which is negotiated through a consortium with seven other two-year colleges in the Oklahoma system in the amount of $21,908.
Board members present at the meeting were: Teresa Burnett, Marci Donaho, Curtis Morgan, Ryan Pitts and Robyn Ready.
The next SSC Board of Regents meeting is set for Thursday, August 15.
