There is still time for high school juniors and seniors to enroll in concurrent classes at Seminole State College before the fall semester begins on Aug. 19, with late enrollment open until Aug. 23. Concurrent enrollment helps students earn college credit hours before their high school graduation.

According to the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, 15,382 students participated in concurrent enrollment across the state last fall. Nearly 77% of those students completed coursework at a community college.

“Concurrent enrollment at Seminole State College offers numerous benefits for high school students,” Director of Enrollment Management Edith Cathey said. “From cost savings to a smoother transition into college life, SSC provides a supportive environment for students to begin their higher education journey.”

SSC offers concurrent enrollment at a reduced cost compared to regular college tuition. High school students in Oklahoma can benefit from the state’s tuition waiver for concurrent enrollment, which covers up to 18 credit hours for seniors and nine credit hours for juniors.

To be eligible for concurrent enrollment at SSC, students must meet specific requirements, including being a junior or senior in high school, having a minimum GPA of 3.0, and providing ACT scores or taking a placement test at the college. Additionally, students must complete a concurrent form for each term they wish to enroll in and submit a recommendation from a high school official.

Students can either email the completed concurrent form and transcript to concurrent@sscok.edu or visit the admissions offices in the Walkingstick Student Services building.

Concurrent students are responsible for covering fees, costs of books, and any tuition amounts over the allocated waived hours.
