Two Seminole State College employees were recognized for their hard work and dedication during the monthly Seminole Chamber of Commerce Forum on April 11. Assistant Professor of Nursing Ann Benson was honored as Faculty Member of the Month and Head Baseball Coach and Academic Advisor Mack Chambers as Staff Member of the Month.
The Seminole Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, along with the Lions Club and Kontoor Brands/Wrangler, recognize SSC employees several times during Forum each year. Individuals are nominated from across the campus and chosen by SSC administrators to receive the honor.
Benson has worked at SSC for three years. She teaches Psychosocial Nursing and the Nursing Leadership capstone.
She received her Bachelor of Nursing from Oklahoma University, her Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner certification at Southwestern Medical College in Dallas, Texas, and her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix.
Benson is a member of the SSC Faculty Senate and serves on the Faculty Welfare Committee. She is a member of the Beta Sigma Phi civic sorority, serves on the Board of Directors for the Prague Kolache Festival and is a member of the First Baptist Church of Prague, where she is a Sunday school teacher.
She was named an Oklahoma Public Health Leadership Institute Fellow in 2011 and was also recognized as the March of Dimes Pediatric/Adolescent Nurse of the Year in 2013.
She has been married to her high school sweetheart, Bryan Benson, for 41 years. They make their home in Prague. They have two children and five grandchildren.
Chambers has worked at SSC for six years. As the Head Baseball Coach, he led the team to win the NJCAA Region II Tournament in 2023. Beyond coaching, he serves as an Academic Advisor, where he works closely with students, offering guidance on majors, assisting with course registration and helping students manage their academic timelines.
He earned his associate degree at then Seminole Junior College, his bachelor’s degree from Northeastern State University and his master’s degree in Sports Administration at East Central University.
He and his wife, Melissa, reside in Shawnee. They have three children, Tyler, Mack and Kamden.
