Two Seminole State College employees were recognized for their hard work and dedication during the monthly Seminole Chamber of Commerce Forum on Dec. 8. Assistant Professor of Art Lynette Atchley was honored as “Faculty Member of the Month” and NASNTI Student Support Specialist Kay Wallace as “Staff Member of the Month.”
The Seminole Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, along with the Lions Club, recognize SSC employees several times during Forum each year. Individuals are nominated from across the campus and chosen by SSC administrators to receive the honor.
Atchley began her work as an adjunct professor at SSC in 2016. In the spring of 2021, she was selected for the full-time Assistant Professor of Art position. She teaches studio art courses, as well as the lecture-based courses of Art History and Art Appreciation.
She received her bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Central Oklahoma and her master’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Texas in San Antonio with an emphasis in the studio art disciplines of ceramics, drawing and sculpture.
Atchley is the sponsor of the Seminole State College Art Club and an active member of both the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition and the Seminole Arts Council.
She and her husband Frank make their home in Shawnee. They have two sons, Clancy, seven, and Grady, five.
Wallace has worked at SSC for ten years. As the Native American-Serving Nontribal Institutions Student Support Specialist, she coordinates the College’s accessibility lab, manages student seminars, and helps organize professional development workshops and cultural events.
She received her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from East Central University, her master’s degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix, and her master’s degree in Grant Writing and Management from Concordia University.
Wallace is actively involved in the community. She works with the Cornerstone Baptist Church Women’s Mission. She is a member of the Philanthropy Education Organization and serves on the Seminole Nation Museum board. She resides in Wewoka.
