Seminole State College is helping students understand their financial aid options and complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at events this month.
From Oct. 3 through Oct. 6, the Financial Aid Office, in a partnership with Student Support Services, held “FAFSA Days.” Financial Aid specialists set up in the Student Union to answer questions and assist students throughout the process.
The Seminole State College Educational Foundation hosted its 26th Annual Golf Tournament at the Firelake Golf Course in Shawnee on Oct. 3. This year’s event raised more than $20,000 for student scholarships and campus capital projects. Seminole State College has been recognized by the Oklahoma State Department of Health as a Certified Healthy Campus. James Fife, Health Educator II with the Oklahoma State Department of Health, (pictured at far right) presented the College its “Excellence Certification” this week.
Accepting the award on behalf of SSC are (pictured left to right): Director of Board Relations and Administrative Operations Mechell Downey, President Lana Reynolds, and Holly Wilson-Byrd, Director of Human Resources. Downey and Wilson-Byrd were responsible for nominating SSC for the honor.
Certified Healthy Campus was created in 2011 to recognize both public and private post-secondary campuses and career technology centers that promote health and wellness for their faculty, staff, students, and even visitors. Promotion of health and wellness can be done in a variety of ways including passing policies that encourage healthy lifestyles and making facilities available for physical activities.
The Language Arts and Humanities Division at Seminole State College has released the full lineup of performers for its Howlers and Yawpers Creativity Symposium on Sept. 28 and 29, from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. each day.
The Seminole State College Student Government Association has selected its officers for the 2022-2023 academic year. The three officers were welcomed into their new roles at a luncheon with SSC President Lana Reynolds (far left) on Sept. 6. Posing for a photo alongside President Reynolds, the SGA officers are (left to right): President Georgia Ledford, of Tecumseh; Vice President Danielle Sullivan, of Holdenville; and Secretary Katherine Nicole Cheatwood, of Seminole.
SGA is dedicated to promoting the interests of the total student body by formulating and proposing ideas to the SSC administration. Recruitment Specialist Caitlin Brown serves as the sponsor for the student organization.
