SSC GEAR UP Students Selected for National Youth Leadership Summit

  The Seminole State College GEAR UP program was notified by the National Council for Community and Educational Partnerships (NCCEP) to select seven students and one alternate to attend the National Youth Leadership Summit (YLS). The YLS was set to take place in July and held in Washington DC. Students completed an application process, which included a parent permission form, submitting copies of academic transcripts, recommendations from school personnel and essays. The following students were selected: Brogan Culwell of Asher, Giulietta Cook of Konawa, Reiden Walker of Okemah, Benjamin Foster and Brooke Stanley of Prague, Madison Hinkle and Austyn White-Richards of Varnum, and Jackson Reid of Wetumka. Four Students Receive Don Gill Scholarship at SSC

Four students residing in Seminole County were recently awarded the Don Gill Scholarship at Seminole State College.

The four recipients are Britlee Morris of Wewoka, Hannah Potter of Seminole, Taegan Freeman of Seminole and Alexandra Newton of Seminole. Morris graduated from New Lima High School earlier this spring. Potter is a recent graduate of Varnum High School. Freeman and Newton are returning SSC students. Donahos Make Donation to Brian Crawford Memorial Sports Complex

Seminole residents Marci (left) and Dale (right) Donaho recently donated $3,000 to the Seminole State College Educational Foundation in support of the Brian Crawford Memorial Sports Complex. Marci Donaho currently serves as the Executive Director of the Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum, a member of the Seminole Public School Board and as a Regent for SSC. Dale Donaho retired from Gordon Cooper Technology center, where he served as the Coordinator of the Central Oklahoma Tech Prep Consortium. SSC Upward Bound Program Provides Meals to Students

Seminole State College’s Upward Bound chapter is providing meals to students enrolled in the program every week until July 2. Upward Bound coordinators Anna Skender, Amber Cooper, Ronnie Williamson and Matt Kappele deliver the meals to homes and local schools. The program has served meals to 250 participants.

Former SSC Educational Foundation Board Trustee Appointed as New State Regent

Holdenville resident Jack Sherry has been appointed by Gov. Kevin Stitt as a member of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education (OSRHE). His appointment was recently confirmed by the Senate, and he will be sworn in at the State Regents’ June 25 meeting. SSC Honors Three Campus Leaders

Seminole State College recently recognized three employees for their campus leadership: Faculty Senate President Jeff Cheng, Classified Staff President Dana Denwalt and Professional Staff President Caitlin Brown. The employees were set to be honored at the Seminole State Educational Foundation’s annual Spring Recognition Banquet, but the event has been postponed due to restrictions on large gatherings in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Seminole State College recently recognized six employees for 20 years of service: Mechell Downey, Teresa Norman, Carol Parker, Tina Savage, Rita Story-Schell and Susan Shumaker.
