Members of the Seminole State College President’s Leadership Class attended a voter engagement event held in the Utterback Ballroom on campus Sept. 17. The event featured a pre-recorded interview with U.S. Congresswoman Kendra Horn, a pre-recorded video from State Regent and former State Attorney General Mike Turpen and a virtual panel discussion featuring State Labor Commissioner Leslie Osborn, State Senator Zack Taylor (District 28) and State Representative Jason Dunnington (District 88). SSC GEAR UP Program Completes Year in Review

The Seminole State College Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (SSC GEAR UP) recently completed their 2019-20 year in review analysis. Each year the year in review coincides with National GEAR UP Week. National GEAR UP Week highlights significant achievements in each GEAR UP program throughout the United States.  The SSC GEAR UP grant serves 10 school districts, Asher, Holdenville, Konawa, Maud, Okemah, Prague, Seminole, Varnum, Wetumka and Wewoka. Of the 1,000 students served, 600 students and parents opted in to receive timely text messages about post-secondary education, Oklahoma’s Promise scholarships, and preparation options. There were 160 parent or guardian personal contacts with GEAR UP staff members about academics through parent-teacher conferences at participating schools. SSC PLC Visits St. Crispin’s Conference Center

Seminole State College President’s Leadership Class students completed teambuilding exercises at St. Crispin’s Conference Center on Sept. 3. The students participated in puzzle solving, group jump rope activities, rock climbing and swinging. SSC Welcomes Students Back to Campus

Seminole State College began its fall semester on Aug. 17. This marks the first time students have met for face-to-face instruction since March. As students arrived on campus, they were greeted by employees who provided free face coverings. The SSC Educational Foundation donated 1,500 masks for the academic year. SSC Welcomes Campus Residents on Move-In Day

Seminole State College welcomed campus residents and their parents on Move-In Day Aug. 14. Donning masks and carrying suitcases, students settled into their dorm rooms in the Roesler and Seminole Nation Residential Learning Centers. SSC Resident Assistants prepared welcome bags in the Seminole Nation Residential Learning Center for incoming students living on campus. The fall semester begins Monday, Aug. 17. Enrollment remains open until Aug. 21.

SSC GEAR UP Program Donates School Supplies to Local High School Students

Seminole State College GEAR UP Student-Parent Coordinators recently purchased school supplies for local high school students. Each freshman and sophomore student from the 10 SSC GEAR UP school district cohorts will receive various school supplies, including mechanical pencils, loose leaf paper, a pencil bag, ink pens, a highlighter, a three-ring binder with dividers and post-it notes.
