SSC to Host Trick or Treat Trail

Seminole State College student organizations and offices will host a campus and community “Trick or Treat” event Thursday night, Oct. 27, in Henderson Park on campus. Stations will be set up by students and employees to pass out candy between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on the walking trail surrounding campus ponds.

The event is free and open to the public. Children are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes and visit the various stations.

“Trick or Treat on the Trail” is coordinated by the college’s Student Life office and organized by Director of Residential Life and Student Activities Melinda Sims. For more information, contact Sims at m.sims@sscok.edu.

SSC Educational Foundation to Hold Grand Opening Event for Sports Complex

The Seminole State College Educational Foundation will host a grand opening event for the Brian Crawford Memorial Sports Complex on Oct. 20 from 3 to 6 p.m. A ribbon cutting will be held at 3:15 p.m. The celebration is open to the public and will feature exhibition baseball and soccer games, as well as food trucks and music.

SSC Employees Recognized at Statewide Conference

Two Seminole State College employees were honored at the 54th annual Oklahoma Association of Community Colleges Conference held on Oct. 7 at Oklahoma City Community College. During the event, SSC Human Resources Director Holly Wilson-Byrd was recognized as Professional Staff Member of the Year and Professor of Psychology Christal Knowles was named Faculty Member of the Year for the College.

College Transfer Fair Held at SSC

Seminole State College SSC hosted a College Transfer Fair on Oct. 5. Students were able to speak with representatives from the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, Cameron University, Oklahoma Christian, University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, East Central University, Grand Canyon University, Oklahoma City University and the U.S. Army.

SSC Students Attend Production of “Hairspray”

Several Seminole State College students recently attended the Broadway production of “Hairspray” at the Oklahoma City Civic Center. The Student Support Services (SSS) and STEM Student Support Services (STEM SSS) Projects sponsored the event. The purpose of the trip was for participants of the programs to have an opportunity to experience a performing arts event that is not typically accessible to them and to be exposed to an enriching cultural performance. Students were also treated to dinner at Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill in Bricktown and a brief stroll down the OKC Riverwalk.

SSC Helps Students Complete FAFSA at October Events

Seminole State College is helping students understand their financial aid options and complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at events this month.

From Oct. 3 through Oct. 6, the Financial Aid Office, in a partnership with Student Support Services, held “FAFSA Days.” Financial Aid specialists set up in the Student Union to answer questions and assist students throughout the process.
