The Seminole State College softball team will compete in the NJCAA South Central District Softball Tournament May 13-17 at FireLake Ballfields in Shawnee.
The Trojans enter the tournament as the No. 1 seed after finishing conference play with a 23-1 record. SSC holds an overall record of 47-4 on the season and will open tournament play at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 14, against the winner of No. 4 NEO A&M and No. 5 Connors State.
The tournament will begin Wednesday, May 13, with three opening-round games. No. 4 NEO A&M will face No. 5 Connors State at noon, No. 3 Rose State will play No. 6 NOC-Tonkawa at 2 p.m., and No. 2 Eastern Oklahoma will take on No. 7 NOC-Enid at 4 p.m.

Seminole State College has announced a new scholarship initiative that will allow eligible concurrent students in the college’s five-county service area to attend SSC at no cost for fees and books, beginning in fall 2026.
The announcement was made by SSC President Lana Reynolds during the SSC Educational Foundation’s Spring Recognition Banquet on April 30.
Through the initiative, eligible high school juniors and seniors attending high school in Seminole, Pottawatomie, Hughes, Okfuskee and Lincoln counties — as well as homeschooled students who reside in one of those five counties — will automatically receive a scholarship covering the cost of fees and books after they qualify for the state’s concurrent student tuition waiver.

Seminole State College will hold its 93rd Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 8 at 10 a.m. in the Raymond Harber Field House on campus. The event will recognize students completing coursework requirements for their degree programs.
Chair of the Seminole State College Board of Regents Marci Donaho will serve as this year’s keynote speaker. Donaho is the former Executive Director of the Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum, a position she held for over 25 years prior to her retirement in 2022. She also spent 28 years as elementary classroom teacher in public schools in Arizona and Oklahoma.

The Seminole State College Educational Foundation hosted its 31st Annual Spring Recognition Banquet on Thursday, April 30, in the Utterback Ballroom of the Enoch Kelly Haney Center. More than 450 guests attended the event, which serves as a major fundraiser and recognition ceremony honoring alumni, employees and students. The event raised nearly $60,000.
This year, Victoria Brooks and Carole Carter were inducted into the SSC Alumni Hall of Fame. The Distinguished Service Award was presented to longtime SSC Medical Laboratory Technology Program Director Perthena Latchaw.

The co-ed softball league provides individuals with cognitive or physical disabilities the opportunity to play baseball. This season, 54 players are participating.

Sophomore members of the Seminole State College President’s Leadership Class received personalized graduation gifts during a luncheon on April 28, commemorating their successful completion of two years in the program. Seminole residents Haley Coates and David Hooten have been appointed by Governor Kevin Stitt to serve as members of the Seminole State College Board of Regents. Their appointments were presented by Senator Grant Green and confirmed by the Oklahoma State Senate Education Committee at the State Capitol on April 28.
Coates will begin her term immediately. Hooten will succeed current SSC Board of Regents Chair Marci Donaho beginning July 1, 2026.

Seminole State College will host two enrollment events this weekend for prospective students and their families.
Enrollment Extravaganza will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, May 1, in the Walkingstick Building on the SSC campus. The event will include scholarship opportunities, Kona Ice snow cones, a food truck, a popcorn bar and a scavenger hunt.
Walk-ins are welcome, and attendees may register in advance at sscok.edu.
