Seminole State College hosted its inaugural Trojan Speech and Debate Tournament earlier this month. A total of 14 high schools from across the state participated in the event, including Ardmore, Durant, McAlester, Byng, Madill, Mannford, Meeker, Muldrow, Seminole, Prague, Haskell, Kiefer, Liberty and Talihina. Several hundred kids and family members participated in Seminole State College’s 5th Annual Trick-or-Treat Trail on campus October 30. Tables were set up along the walking trails of Henderson Park with various SSC teams, organizations, students and employees who passed out candy to trick-or-treaters. Concert pianist Dr. Peter Simon will entertain area residents at a free public concert Thursday, Nov. 8 on Seminole State College’s campus. The “Music and Poetry of Love” program will begin at 7 p.m. in the Utterback Ballroom of the Enoch Kelly Haney Center. The event is sponsored by the SSC Educational Foundation. Reynolds read If I Ran the Circus by Dr. Seuss Tuesday morning to third-grade students in Mrs. Sonia Scott’s class as part of the national week-long birthday celebration of the children’s book author.
Seminole State College will host former Belles basketball player and Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) star Simone “Jamaican Hurricane” Edwards on campus next week. During her visit to SSC, she will promote her book Unstoppable, a memoir aimed to encourage others to pursue their dreams, even in the face of opposition.
