Carson Newton, a recent graduate of Seminole State College, clinched a ninth-place finish in the Division II NJCAA Golf National Tournament held in Joplin, Missouri from May 21-24 at the Twin Hills Golf and Country Club. Newton’s performance also earned him the honor of being named to the All-American Team, marking a milestone as the first SSC student-athlete to receive this distinction.

SSC Golfer to Compete in National Tournament
Seminole State College golfer Carson Newton of Seminole secured second place at the Southwest Central District Golf Tournament in Kansas City, Missouri, on May 7. He will now advance to the NJCAA National Tournament in Joplin, Missouri, from May 21 through May 24. Both the SSC men’s and women’s golf teams completed their seasons this month. The teams are led by Head Coach Ronnie Williamson and Assistant Coach Kenneth Lupp.
“We’re so proud of these talented athletes and what they accomplished this year,” Williamson said. “We’re also so appreciative of First United Bank, Security State Bank, Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole Ford, Seminole Auto Sales, Wrangler, Bar-S Foods and Mark Gentry for sponsoring our journey to Nationals.”
SSC Baseball District Tournament Updates
Following their NJCAA Region II championship win on May 11, the Seminole State College baseball team will face off against Crowder College of Neosho, Missouri, in a best two-out-of-three series for the South Central District title at the BCM Sports Complex in Seminole. The winner will advance to the NJCAA JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Seminole State College hosted the Lloyd Simmons Field dedication on May 3 at the Brian Crawford Memorial Sports Complex. Former Trojan baseball Head Coach Lloyd Simmons was presented with a plaque and customized baseball bat to commemorate the special occasion. Simmons also received a Citation of Recognition from the State of Oklahoma in honor of the field dedication by State Senator and Trojan Alumni Darcy Jech. Pictured (left to right) are Sen. This weekend, beginning Thursday, May 9, Seminole State College will host the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region II Division I baseball tournament at the Brian Crawford Memorial Sports Complex.
The college was selected last fall to host the tournament, following a bid process. Artificial turf on the complex fields will ensure tournament play, unless weather conditions provide a dangerous threat.
In the 50-plus years that the post-season playoff tournament has been held, this is the first time for the event to come to Seminole. It has been held at various locations in Tulsa, Oklahoma City, McAlester, Bartlesville and Woodward.

Seminole State College will host the dedication ceremony of Lloyd Simmons Field on May 3 at 5:30 p.m. at the Brian Crawford Memorial Sports Complex. Admission to the field dedication and the subsequent Trojan baseball game at 6:00 p.m. will be free for all attendees.
Beginning in October of 2023, Trojan baseball alumni spearheaded efforts to commemorate Simmons by raising funds to name SSC’s home field in his honor. Simmons, whose coaching tenure spanned from 1976 to 2001 and 2012-2016, won 1,804 games. He led 13 teams to the NJCAA College World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado, and 43 of his former players made it to Major League Baseball.

Trojan Softball Coach Amber Flores was honored on April 18 for her recent 500th career win at Seminole State College.
On Saturday, April 6, Flores won her 500th game at the helm of the SSC program. The 4 -1 win against Eastern Oklahoma State in Wilburn brought her overall record at Seminole to 500 wins against 104 losses.
In recognition of this milestone a pre-game presentation was held prior to the Trojans facing the Connors State Cowgirls Thursday afternoon at the SSC home field. Participating in the ceremony at home plate were SSC Athletic Director Leslie Sewell, owner of the OKC Spark professional women’s softball team Tina Floyd, SSC President Lana Reynolds and Chair of the SSC Board of Regents Kim Hyden.

Seminole State College Trojan softball players joined members of A League of Their Own at the Avedis Foundation Adaptive Field, located within the Brian Crawford Memorial Sports Complex on April 8. The League is a co-ed softball league established to provide an avenue for individuals with cognitive or physical disabilities to play baseball.
