Five Seminole State College Language Arts and Humanities faculty members had papers selected for the 2022 Southwest Popular/American Culture Association Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Seminole State College students may now enroll in online eight-week courses.

Seminole State College began its fall semester on Aug. 17. This marks the first time students have met for face-to-face instruction since March. As students arrived on campus, they were greeted by employees who provided free face coverings. The SSC Educational Foundation donated 1,500 masks for the academic year. SSC Student-Athletes Receive Academic All-American Honors
Forty-seven student-athletes and five athletic teams at Seminole State College have been recognized for their outstanding academic achievements this year by the National Junior College Athletic Association. The NJCAA All-American Student Athlete Awards are divided into the three groups based on GPA – First Team requires a 4.0 GPA, Second Team requires a GPA between 3.80 and 3.99, and Third Team requires a GPA between 3.60 and 3.79.

The NJCAA has also recognized five SSC athletic teams for ending their seasons with a 3.0 GPA or above. Softball held a 3.59 GPA, volleyball held an overall team GPA of 3.53, the men’s Golf team held a 3.25 GPA, women’s Golf achieved a 3.15 GPA and the baseball team reached a 3.04 GPA.
The Seminole State College GEAR UP program was notified by the National Council for Community and Educational Partnerships (NCCEP) to select seven students and one alternate to attend the National Youth Leadership Summit (YLS). The YLS was set to take place in July and held in Washington DC. Students completed an application process, which included a parent permission form, submitting copies of academic transcripts, recommendations from school personnel and essays. The following students were selected: Brogan Culwell of Asher, Giulietta Cook of Konawa, Reiden Walker of Okemah, Benjamin Foster and Brooke Stanley of Prague, Madison Hinkle and Austyn White-Richards of Varnum, and Jackson Reid of Wetumka. Four students residing in Seminole County were recently awarded the Don Gill Scholarship at Seminole State College.
The four recipients are Britlee Morris of Wewoka, Hannah Potter of Seminole, Taegan Freeman of Seminole and Alexandra Newton of Seminole. Morris graduated from New Lima High School earlier this spring. Potter is a recent graduate of Varnum High School. Freeman and Newton are returning SSC students. Seminole State College received official notification Monday from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of its “Reaffirmation of Accreditation” that will continue until 2029-2030. This ten-year accreditation was the result of a multi-year preparation of a self-study Assurance Review. The process culminated in a site visit by an HLC team in late February.
