The Seminole State College-Gordon Cooper Technology Center Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program was recently award a five-year full accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education. The program is the result of a three-year partnership between the two institutions, and is one of only eight accredited programs in the state. The Seminole State College Professional Staff Council recently awarded the Kay Edwards Memorial Scholarship to current students Adley Dill and Kristen Casteel. The scholarship will provide each student $500 toward their summer semester at SSC. Dill is a health science major and plans to complete the College’s nursing program. Casteel is a social sciences major and plans to transfer to the University of Oklahoma after graduating from SSC to pursue a degree in counseling. Seminole State College will hold its’ 86th Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 10, for students completing coursework requirements for their degree programs. Twelve Seminole State College students were inducted into the Psi Beta Psychology Honor Society for two-year colleges on April 11 at 6 p.m.
Psi Beta is the national honor society in psychology for community and junior colleges. The mission of Psi Beta is professional development of psychology students through promotion and recognition of excellence in scholarship, leadership, research, and community service. The Seminole State College Board of Regents convened April 18 for their monthly meeting. The Board approved a construction bid for a Tanner Hall Renovation project and authorized the College to seek outside legal counsel in regard to guidance on taxation options to protect local Board governance. Seminole State College students and personnel visited the State Capitol to join the Oklahoma’s Promise Day celebration on April 9. Since its inception in 1992, the Oklahoma’s Promise scholarship program has awarded college tuition scholarships to more than 85,000 high school graduates, according to the Oklahoma’s Promise 2017-18 Year End Report.
