The Seminole State College Trojan Speech and Debate Tournament welcomed 16 area high schools to the SSC campus on January 24 and 25 to an Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association qualifying tournament. Seminole State College has released the names of honor roll students for the 2019 fall semester. Three separate honor rolls recognize students for their academic achievements.
The President’s Honor Roll is comprised of students who maintain a perfect 4.0 grade-point-average in at least 12 credit hours of coursework.
Students named to the Vice President’s Honor Roll must have a 3.5 grade-point-average or better and no grade below a “C”.
The Part-Time Students’ Honor Roll is for students who maintain a 3.5 grade-point-average with no grade below a “C” in at least six, but less than 12 college credit hours. Continue reading “Fall Honor Roll Recognizes SSC Students”

Seminole State College held a pinning ceremony at the Kelly Haney Center on Dec. 6 for nursing students expected to meet degree requirements this semester. Due to the program’s rapid growth, this event marked the first time the College has hosted a pinning ceremony in the fall. Twenty-five Seminole State College business students and faculty members toured the Stonecipher School of Business at East Central University in Ada on Nov. 6. The students learned about transfer opportunities and available majors.
Oklahoma Student Government Association hosted their annual Fall Congress this past weekend, November 9 and 10 at Oklahoma City University. Breaking previous records, the first session of the 39th legislature had over160 participants who represented 22 universities and colleges throughout the state of Oklahoma. Ariel Blackwood, an eighth grader and GEAR UP participant at Okemah Middle School, has found her passion with robotics. Blackwood and her sister Rose along with 145 middle school age students had the opportunity to attend the Seminole State College GEAR UP summer camp in May 2019 that emphasized learning experiences in Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) and included building and assembling roller coasters, robots, and drones. Seminole State College sophomore Tijah Johnson, of Shawnee, attended the American Student Government Association annual conference in Washington D.C. Oct. 10-13. Johnson serves as the President of the Student Government Association at SSC.
During the conference, she attended workshops on leadership, time management, bolstering campus involvement and many other topics. She also toured many landmarks of the nation’s capital.
