Thirty-seven high school seniors from Prague, Paden, and online-charter schools comprise the 2019-2020 BancFirst Prague Student Bank Board, and are eligible to earn a tuition and fee-free college credit in Business Leadership from Seminole State College. Seminole State College hosted its annual Constitution Day event on Sept. 17. The event featured guest speaker Paul B. Smith, District Attorney for Seminole, Hughes and Pontotoc Counties. Smith addressed students, faculty and staff about “Changing American Values; Creating Constitutional Conflicts Impacting Law Enforcement.”

Seminole residents Bettie Conn and LaVere Bishop have stepped forward to assist Seminole State College with its efforts to establish a Food Pantry on campus.

The Seminole State College Student Government Association and the Oklahoma Blood Institute invited students, faculty and community members to participate in a blood drive on the College’s campus Sept. 5 and 6. Among the many participants, SSC Recruitment Specialist Britney Honsinger stopped by to donate at the Raymond Harber Field House during the event.

The College is currently gathering non-perishable food items and monetary donations to support the pantry, which will open to students this fall. SSC has launched a payroll deduction program, and during the first weeks of the fall semester, 50 employees have elected to donate from their earnings directly to the food pantry program. Tax deductible contributions to address food insecurity among students and their families may be made to the SSC Educational Foundation, and sent to P.O. Box 351, Seminole, OK 74818.

Seminole State College is currently hosting Kids on Campus, a variety of children and youth camps scheduled throughout the summer. The Picasso Painting Camp builds creativity and self-esteem as each student sees his/her artwork through to a finished piece.
Seminole State College President Emeritus Dr. Jim Utterback was honored Saturday with induction into the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame. Utterback, who served as President of SSC from 1997 to 2017, received a bachelor’s degree from SWOSU in 1978 and a master’s in 1979. Utterback (far right) was recognized with five other former Southwestern students. Pictured left to right are: Thomas E. Weichel of Colony; Dr. Carl Hook of Norman; Dr. Gina Scott Ligon of Papillion, Nebraska; and Kelli Litsch of Weatherford. The late Jim Litsch of Thomas was posthumously inducted.
