SSC Supporters Attend Regional Legislative Tour
Supporters of Seminole State College were guests at the Southeast Oklahoma Legislative Tour hosted by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education last week in McAlester.
Dr. Glen D. Johnson, Chancellor of the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education, met with the group of area legislators and friends of higher education to discuss the importance of higher education in improving the economy and business climate of the state. Eskimo Joe CEO
The Seminole State College President’s Leadership Class recently travelled to Eskimo Joe’s in Stillwater where they enjoyed lunch and visited with Founder and CEO Stan Clark. Clark shared the story of how the business began and how it has progressed over the years. During their visit to Stillwater, the PLC students also toured the Eskimo Joe’s Promotional Products Group facility. The group got a behind the scenes look at how the company designs and creates shirts, hats and other promotional items. They learned each step of the process, from sourcing to printing to distribution.

SSC Emeritus Status Honorees to be Recognized
Five former Seminole State College employees will be recommended for Emeritus status next week during the College’s Board of Regents meeting on Thursday, March 15. A special afternoon reception recognizing these employees will follow the meeting, beginning at 2 p.m. in the Haney Center Utterback Ballroom. Seminole State College faculty and staff took an early morning break on Tuesday to enjoy coffee and breakfast. The “Meet and Greet” event allowed employees from across campus a chance to visit and welcome new staff members to SSC.

PTK Honor Society Inducts New Members
Forty-nine Seminole State College students were recently inducted into the Alpha Theta Nu Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society for Two-Year Colleges. Students are selected based on their scholarship, leadership and service qualities. The chapter provides programs, activities and participation in community service projects. Belles Receive “Unstoppable” Gift
Seminole State College Belles basketball players each received an autographed copy of “Unstoppable,” a book recently written by Simone Edwards, former Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) star and Seminole State College Belle. Longtime Belles supporters and owners of TS&H Shirt Co. of Seminole, Sue Snodgrass and Hope Pickering, purchased the copies for the team. Edwards will be in Seminole this week to promote her book and visit with those on campus and in the community. On Wednesday, March 7, Edwards will visit with SSC students at 10 a.m. during a special presentation inside the Jeff Johnston Fine Arts Center. This event is free and open to the public. She will also be the guest speaker at the Seminole Chamber of Commerce Forum luncheon on Thursday, March 8, at 12 p.m. This event is also open to the public with an $8 fee for lunch, payable at the door.
