SSC Now Enrolling for Dog Behavioral Training Courses

Seminole State College is currently enrolling for two behavioral training courses for dogs and their owners.

The courses are taught by Jonathan Cox, owner of Buckaroos R&R. Prior to founding his dog training, grooming and boarding company in 2015, Cox spent several years training therapy and service dogs and doing behavioral dog training. His experience includes training dogs and inmates for the State of Oklahoma Cooperative Foster Dog Program administered through the Department of Corrections.

The two courses are each five weeks in length, meeting on Tuesday evenings. Both courses will begin Tuesday, May 18 and end Tuesday, June 15. Each session will last approximately one hour.

Beginning at 6 p.m. is basic training for puppies eight weeks to six months old. The class will help owners teach their pets to sit, lie down, wait, leave-it, walk on a leash and stop making inside messes.

Beginning at 7 p.m. is basic training for dogs six months or older. Owners will review basic command and help pets learn more advanced listening techniques. Participants will also learn how to socialize their dog with other dogs and humans. They will also learn ways to stay healthy, safe and active.

Those enrolled in the class will need to bring a dog collar, leash and treats. Pre-registration is required due to limited class size. The total cost of the five-week course is $75.
