SSC Extends Scholarship Application Deadline Following FAFSA Delay

Seminole State College has announced an extension of the scholarship application deadline for the Fall 2024 term to July 31, 2024. This decision follows the delay in the availability of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which has impacted many students’ ability to complete their financial aid applications on time.

The extended deadline provides prospective and current students additional time to apply for scholarships amid uncertainties caused by the FAFSA delay. The 2024-25 FAFSA was initially delayed due to a massive overhaul of the application, as required by Congress. As of June 21, the percentage of FAFSA completions by 2024 high school graduates was down 11.8 percent versus the class of 2023 at the same time last year, according to the National College Attainment Network.

SSC’s scholarship extension aims to ensure that all eligible students have ample opportunity to secure financial aid, thereby reducing the financial burden of higher education.

“With a lower tuition cost than many higher education institutions across the state, these scholarship dollars will go further for students attending SSC,” Edith Cathey, Director of Enrollment Management at SSC, said.

The average annual cost—including tuition and mandatory fees—for a full-time student enrolled in 15 credit hours per semester at SSC is $5,400, significantly lower than the statewide average of $6,794. In comparison, the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University, the state’s research institutions, have an average annual cost of $9,419 for tuition and mandatory fees, according to the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education’s Fiscal Year 2023-24 Tuition and Fee Rates summary.

“We have a significant amount of scholarship funds still available. We encourage students to apply as soon as they can to secure these financial resources,” Cathey said.
