SSC Athletic Booster Club Hosts Fall Cookout

The Seminole State College Athletic Booster Club hosted a cookout for the college’s student-athletes and special guests Sept. 24 at the SSC softball complex. This year’s sports teams include 106 students from across Oklahoma. Students also represent Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, Colorado, New York, Florida, Virginia, Canada and Africa.

Serving students at the event were (left to right) SSC Athletic Director Mike St. John and Booster Club Directors Les Walker, Dillon Robinson, Lisa Schoaps and Micah Baker.

Among guests at the SSC Booster Club Cookout were (left to right) Dale Donaho, SSC Regent Marci Donaho and SSC Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Bill Knowles.

SSC Retirees Return to Campus

Seminole State College welcomed 20 retirees to campus for a breakfast in their honor on Sept. 24. 

SSC President Lana Reynolds, who hosted the event, said, “We were thrilled to see so many former employees who dedicated most, and in some cases all, of their professional careers to this College.  They played an important role in the growth and development of the institution.  We wanted to thank them for their service and invite them to reconnect and stay involved with SSC.” Continue reading “SSC Retirees Return to Campus” →

SSC Grant Programs Hold “Empowering Students” Event

Student Support Services and STEM Student Support Services, two federal grant programs housed at Seminole State College, recently offered a session on “Empowering Students.”  Advisors in both programs believe that students often need a boost in self-advocacy skills, which are life-long skills and transferrable to many aspects of life. The hour-long session began with a brief presentation by Sarah Ledford, SSS Advisor. Ledford presented seven key points of empowering yourself, including, “self-empowerment requires insight, calls for initiative” and “an empowered person has a strong sense of morality.”  Continue reading “SSC Grant Programs Hold “Empowering Students” Event” →

SSC President’s Leadership Class Attends Chamber Forum

The Seminole State College President’s Leadership Class poses for a photo with Brent Kisling, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Department of Commerce (center), following the Seminole Chamber of Commerce Forum on Sept. 12. Kisling was this month’s featured speaker. He discussed attracting more businesses to Oklahoma and growing job sectors. Kisling was appointed to his position in January by Governor Kevin Stitt. Seminole Residents Make Major Donation to SSC Food Pantry

Seminole residents Bettie Conn and LaVere Bishop have stepped forward to assist Seminole State College with its efforts to establish a Food Pantry on campus.

SSC to Host Constitution Day Event

Seminole State College will host its annual Constitution Day event on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 1 p.m. in the Enoch Kelly Haney Center Lecture Hall.

The event will feature guest speaker Paul B. Smith, District Attorney for Seminole, Hughes and Pontotoc Counties. His presentation is entitled “Changing American Values; Creating Constitutional Conflicts Impacting Law Enforcement.” Students, faculty, staff and community members are all welcome to attend this free event.

Holdenville Society of Painters and Sculptors Awards Scholarship to SSC Student

The Holdenville Society of Painters and Sculptors recently awarded a $500 scholarship to Seminole State College freshman Jaqueline Torres for her accomplishments in art while a senior at Holdenville High School. A pencil drawing by Torres was featured in the Holdenville Society of Painters art show in the spring of 2019. She enjoys working in ceramics and sketching. Torres is presently a business major at SSC with the goal of becoming an accountant one day.
