Former SSC Belles Basketball Player Named Spokesperson for Caribbean American Heritage Month

Former Seminole State College Belles basketball player and the first Jamaican WNBA Player Simone Edwards, OD, has signed on as national spokesperson for Caribbean American Heritage Month. Edwards who was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, accepted the duties of spokesperson for Caribbean American Heritage Month to help bring more visibility to Caribbean Americans and the contributions they make. SSC Students Complete Financial Literacy Program

Four Seminole State College students recently completed a week-long personal finance and financial literacy class as part of the Neil Molleur KEY Scholarship Program.

The KEY (Keep Educating Yourself) seminar covered all aspects of financial literacy, as well as professional development tips. Kay Edwards Memorial Scholarship Recipients Announced

The Seminole State College Professional Staff Council recently awarded the Kay Edwards Memorial Scholarship to current students Adley Dill and Kristen Casteel. The scholarship will provide each student $500 toward their summer semester at SSC. Dill is a health science major and plans to complete the College’s nursing program. Casteel is a social sciences major and plans to transfer to the University of Oklahoma after graduating from SSC to pursue a degree in counseling. SSC Students Awarded 2019-2020 Scholarships

Seminole State College students Holly Finch and Austin Chesser were both awarded a 2019-2020 scholarship during a Faculty Senate meeting on April 29 . Finch is the recipient of the Jay McAlvain Memorial Faculty Senate Scholarship which provides $1,250 per semester that may be applied to SSC tuition, fees, or required textbooks charged through the SSC Bookstore.  Finch lives in Maud and graduated from Shawnee High School.  She is a MLT major. Chesser is the recipient of the Calvin Scholarship and the Colclazier Memorial Scholarship for the upcoming 2019-2020 academic year.  The Calvin Scholarship pays for up to 15 hours of tuition per semester.  The Colclazier Memorial Scholarship covers $50 towards a book each semester in the SSC Bookstore.  Austin lives in Seminole and graduated from Prague High School.  He is a business major. SSC Joins Oklahoma’s Promise Day Celebration at the Capitol

Seminole State College students and personnel visited the State Capitol to join the Oklahoma’s Promise Day celebration on April 9. Since its inception in 1992, the Oklahoma’s Promise scholarship program has awarded college tuition scholarships to more than 85,000 high school graduates, according to the Oklahoma’s Promise 2017-18 Year End Report. Two Seminole State College employees were recognized for their hard work and dedication during the monthly Seminole Chamber of Commerce Forum on Feb. 14. Seminole State College female campus housing residents attended a presentation on healthy relationships at the Enoch Kelly Haney Center recently. Darian Towner—who serves as a Prevention Specialist for House of Hope, a family violence program located in Shawnee—spoke to SSC students about red flags and establishing healthy boundaries.
