SSC Honors Martin Luther King Day
Members of the Seminole State College President’s Leadership class met Thursday in honor of Martin Luther King Day. The group watched “The Green Book,” a film based on a true story about an African-American pianist, who embarks on a concert tour in the Deep South in 1962 and hires a Caucasian driver for protection during a time of racism and segregation. President Lana Reynolds led a discussion with the students afterward, encouraging the group to share their thoughts on the film. She also asked them to continue to serve as leaders on campus and how they could be a positive voice against injustice and discrimination.

SSC Board of Regents Renews President’s Contract
The Seminole State College Board of Regents met Jan. 21 to consider a recommendation to hire a professional auditing service and to review the terms of President Lana Reynolds’ employment.
The meeting opened with a review of the College’s recent expenditures by Vice President for Fiscal Affairs Courtney Jones. Later in the meeting, Jones joined Ed Lemmings, Director of Physical Plant and Campus Safety, in presenting an update on deferred maintenance issues. The College is reviewing and exploring funding options to address high priority projects, including repairs to the roof on the Raymond Harber Field House, replacement of heat and air systems and parking lot renovations.

Students Return to Campus as SSC’s Spring Semester Begins
The spring semester began Jan. 11 at Seminole State College. With the college’s commitment to safeguarding student and employee health, masks are required on campus and social distancing is maintained in the classroom.

SSC Launches Laptop Loan Program
Seminole State College’s Boren Library has launched a new laptop loan program to assist students with their technology needs. With a growing number of students enrolling in online or hybrid courses due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the College wanted to offer the program to remove a financial barrier that students may face. The devices were purchased with funds SSC received from the federal CARES Act.

SSC Offers N95 Mask Fittings for Employees
Seminole State College held an N95 mask fitting for employees Thursday afternoon and will hold a second session on Jan. 13 in the Enoch Kelly Haney Center’s Utterback Ballroom. The masks were made available to all employees through a second round of COVID-19 federal funds dispersed to the College in late 2020.

Seminole State College Holds Extended Enrollment Hours for Spring Semester
Seminole State College classes are scheduled to begin Monday, Jan. 11. Special extended office hours will take place in an effort to provide students extra time to enroll for the 2021 spring semester. While classes begin Jan. 11, students may enroll for the spring semester through Jan. 15. Extended enrollment hours will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4 through Thursday, Jan. 7; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 8; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9. Students are encouraged to come register for classes before the spring semester begins.

SSC Names New Web and Multimedia Coordinator
Seminole State College recently hired Brooks Nickell as its new Web and Multimedia Coordinator. Nickell graduated from Davenport High School. SSC President’s Leadership Class Registers Students to Vote
Members of the Seminole State College President’s Leadership Class helped students register to vote in honor of National Voter Registration Day on Sept. 22. PLC students set up six tables across campus, encouraged their peers to participate in the upcoming election and gave away t-shirts to anyone who registered. SSC Set to Hold Virtual Commencement Ceremony
Seminole State College will hold its’ 87th Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 8, for students completing coursework requirements for their degree programs. Due to the Campus’ response to the COVID-19 pandemic, traditional Commencement Exercises scheduled in the Raymond Harber Field House on the campus of Seminole State College have been cancelled.
