SSC Treats Students to Fair Day Event

Students attending the SSC 2021 Fair Day enjoy basketball shooting, ring toss and more.

Seminole State College Student Activities hosted Fair Day on Sept. 22 in the courtyard just outside of the E.T. Dunlap Student Union. The event featured fair cuisine, such as cotton candy, popcorn, turkey legs and corn dogs, as well as several games for students to play, including inflatable axe throwing, basketball, ring toss and more.

SSC Educational Foundation Hosts 25th Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser

The Seminole State College Educational Foundation hosted its 25th Annual Golf Tournament at the Jimmie Austin Golf Course in Seminole on Sept. 17. This year’s event raised more than $30,000 for student scholarships and campus capital projects. A total of 95 players, comprising 24 corporate teams, took to the links to show their support for the College.

Inaugural Class of Hall of Fame

In 1994, Seminole “Junior” College President Dr. Jim Cook came up with an idea to honor outstanding former students of the college with induction into an “Alumni Hall of Fame.” Members of the inaugural class, pictured left to right with Dr. Cook, are: long-time Varnum School Superintendent Eugene Warrenburg; retired SJC Reading Instructor Frances Warrenburg; former Wilson Elementary School Principal Bonnie Lee Grisso; former Seminole civic leader and business owner Neil Molleur; and former Trojan basketball player and NAIA National Championship Coach at Oklahoma City University Win Case. Since that time, 25 Annual banquets have been held recognizing over 70 additional honorees whose personal and professional accomplishments have brought pride to the institution.

SSC to Host Constitution Day Event

Seminole State College will host its annual Constitution Day event on Sept. 17 at 10 a.m. in the Utterback Ballroom, located in the Enoch Kelly Haney Center. This year’s event will feature guest speaker John Guinn, the Oklahoma Convention of States Director. Attendees will also have the opportunity to register to vote at stations set up by the Student Government Association and the Phi Theta Kappa honor society. Light refreshments will also be provided for attendees.

Sen. Roger Thompson Receives Higher Education Distinguished Service Awards

Oklahoma Sen. Roger Thompson was recognized with 2020 and 2021 Distinguished Service Awards for Higher Education during today’s meeting of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. He was honored for his support of higher education in his role as Chair of the Appropriations Committee, co-chair of the Committee on Pandemic Relief and as a member of the Finance and Rules committees.
