From Veterans Day until the end of the fall semester, SSC students, student athletes, faculty, staff and Administration signed thank you and holiday messages on festive cards and delivered the cards to veterans in the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City. This year more than 100 cards were signed with notes of appreciation and cheer. Two Seminole State College employees were recognized for their hard work and dedication during the monthly Seminole Chamber of Commerce Forum on Thursday. Assistant Professor of Business Stephen Brooks was honored as “Educator of the Month” and Language Arts and Humanities/Social Sciences Office Manager Tina Morris was honored as “Classified Staff Member of the Month.”
The Seminole Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, along with the Lions Club and Blue Ribbon Realty, recognize SSC employees several times during Forum each year. Individuals are nominated from across the campus and chosen by SSC administrators to receive the honor.
Brooks began at SSC in 2015 as an adjunct instructor and in 2018 he moved into his current position as an Assistant Professor in the Business and Education Division. Along with teaching, Brooks also serves as the coordinator for Business and Industry at SSC. In this role, he manages several programs, including the Student Bank Board and Kid’s on Campus Summer Camps.
“I greatly enjoy being a part of the SSC family and love that I am able to work with a diverse student population of all ages, life-experiences and backgrounds,” said Brooks.
He completed his bachelor’s degree in Political Science at the University of Oklahoma, where he also earned his MBA.
Brooks and his wife Susan reside in Shawnee. In their spare time, they enjoy exercising and going to concerts and live plays. They also care for a small greenhouse in their backyard where they keep plants and flowers alive through the winter months.
Morris began at SSC in February of 2017 and currently serves as the Office Manager for the Language Arts and Humanities Division and the Social Sciences Division. Previously, she worked in human resources for over 30 years with the Sac and Fox Nation.
In her current position, Morris oversees the daily operations of both divisions, including greeting visitors, helping students and managing a variety of administrative tasks. She also shares responsibility for the mailroom and switchboard. On campus, she is a member of the Classified Staff Association and serves on the WICHE (Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education) Evaluation Team for NASNTI.
Morris holds an Associate in Science degree from Seminole Jr. College and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from St. Gregory’s University. She resides in Stroud and enjoys traveling and spending time with her family in her spare time.
The Seminole State College Board of Regents approved the appointment of Dr. Linda Goeller to the position of Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs at a special meeting on Nov. 12.
Dr. Goeller is in her 11th year at the College, where she has served as a Division Chair in the past and most recently as a Professor of Mathematics and Coordinator of Institutional Effectiveness.
Dr. Goeller earned her doctorate in Professional Studies/Mathematics Education from Oklahoma State University, her master’s in Mathematics Education from Northeastern State University, and her bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Oklahoma State University.
She has served on a number of Faculty Senate and Mathematics Division committees. She also has served as the co-chair of the Oklahoma State Regents Higher Education Mathematics Task Force.
Last April, Dr. Goeller was selected to receive the Dale P. Parnell Distinguished Faculty Award at the 2019 American Association of Community Colleges annual convention in Orlando, Florida. The award is given nationally to individuals who demonstrate a passion for classroom learning, show a willingness to support students both inside and outside of the classroom, and go above and beyond what is required to ensure the academic success of their students.
She is also active in the community of Seminole. She is a graduate of Leadership Seminole, a member of the Seminole Chamber of Commerce, a volunteer with the Seminole Humane Society, and currently serves as President of the Seminole Rotary Club. She and her husband Mark are active members of the Immanuel Baptist Church.
“We are very fortunate to have someone of Dr. Goeller’s caliber willing to step into this role at such a critical time. I believe she will bring expertise, excitement and integrity to this office,” President Lana Reynolds said.
The previous Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Larry Guerrero notified the College of his intention to resign his position due to personal reasons in early November. Board members in attendance were Curtis Morgan, Ryan Franklin, Kim Hyden, Paige Sherry and Marci Donaho. The next regularly scheduled Board meeting will take place on Thursday, Dec. 12.

The Seminole State College Baptist Collegiate Ministry recently hosted a dodgeball tournament on campus. Multiple student teams and one faculty team competed in the Raymond Harber Fieldhouse. Prize money was awarded to the top three teams. The faculty team, which placed third, donated their winnings to the SSC Food Pantry.
