Several Seminole State College faculty from the STEM Division were invited to present at the Innovative Educators Summit in Charleston, S.C., an event attended by educators from across the nation. Their presentation on “Implementing Corequisites to Support Math Pathways” shared the teams experience from the past year as the STEM curriculum made the transition to corequisites and math pathway courses. Regents Award Emeritus Status to Five Former Employees

Seminole State College faculty and staff took an early morning break on Tuesday to enjoy coffee and breakfast. The “Meet and Greet” event allowed employees from across campus a chance to visit and welcome new staff members to SSC.

Hernandez Speaks at Black History Month Presentation
Seminole State College STEM Assistant Professor Theran Hernandez visited with Seminole junior high and high school students this week during a special Black History Month program at the school. Hernandez spoke to the group about her experience as an African American student, and how she overcame racial stereotypes and became the first in her family to attend and graduate college. She stressed the importance of education and encouraged the students to pursue their dreams, even in the face of adversity.
Seminole Chamber Honors SSC Employees
Two Seminole State College employees were recognized for their hard work and dedication during the monthly Seminole Chamber of Commerce Forum on Thursday. Assistant Professor of Math Emily Carpenter was honored as “Educator of the Month” and Business and Education/Language Arts and Humanities Office Manager Carmen Hutchins was honored as “Classified Staff Member of the Month.”
The Seminole Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, along with the Lions Club and Blue Ribbon Realty, recognize SSC employees several times during Forum each year. Individuals are nominated from across the campus and chosen by SSC administrators to receive the honor.
