SSC to Host AI Symposium on Native Language Preservation and Revitalization

Seminole State College will host an Artificial Intelligence Symposium on Thursday, Sept. 26, exploring AI’s innovative role in preserving and revitalizing Native American languages. The symposium is sponsored by SSC’s Native American-Serving Nontribal Institutions (NASNTI) federal grant.

Deidre Holmberg

The event’s keynote speaker, Deidre Holmberg, Principal Tech Education Strategist at Amazon Web Services will deliver an address titled “GenAI and Education” from 10:10 to 11:15 a.m. in the Jeff Johnston Auditorium. The keynote will focus on generative AI’s growing role in education. Holmberg is an expert of the intersection of education and cloud technology. Her contributions to science and technology education have earned her a place in the Pacific Science Center Hall of Fame.

SSC to Host New Student Orientation

Seminole State College will host “SSC Unwrapped,” a new student orientation event, on Aug. 17 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Enoch Kelly Haney Center. The event is designed to welcome incoming freshmen and their families to the college community and provide information for a successful start to the academic year.

The orientation will begin at 1:00 p.m. with a welcome and overview of the day’s activities by the SSC Orientation Committee. President Lana Reynolds will then deliver a welcome to the incoming class, followed by a Top Chef Competition, featuring President Reynolds, Vice President for Finance Grants and Enrollment Melanie Rinehart and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs Dr. Bill Knowles as guest judges.

At 1:45 p.m., attendees can enjoy a break with snow cones and hot dogs, while also having the opportunity to explore the browsing fair.

SSC Baseball and Softball Teams to Compete in Regional Tournaments

This weekend, beginning Thursday, May 9, Seminole State College will host the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region II Division I baseball tournament at the Brian Crawford Memorial Sports Complex.

The college was selected last fall to host the tournament, following a bid process. Artificial turf on the complex fields will ensure tournament play, unless weather conditions provide a dangerous threat.

In the 50-plus years that the post-season playoff tournament has been held, this is the first time for the event to come to Seminole. It has been held at various locations in Tulsa, Oklahoma City, McAlester, Bartlesville and Woodward.

McCall to Speak at SSC Commencement

Quick Info for Graduates

  • The commencement ceremony is first come first serve seating. Overflow will be directed to the Jeff Johnston Fine Arts center where the commencement livestream will be playing.
  • We kindly ask that family and friends remain seated for the whole ceremony as to not interrupt or block the view from other attendees.
  • Graduate Check-in location: South end of Raymond Harber Field House. You must be there no later than 9:30 AM and you will be directed on where to line up after you check-in. Office staff will let you know when the procession will begin to the gymnasium.
  • Graduates and family members can pre-register with a non-school email address for notifications and ordering of photos after the ceremony by scanning the QR code below.

Seminole State College will hold its 91st Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 3, for students completing coursework requirements for their degree programs. The graduation ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. inside the Raymond Harber Field House on campus.

Sign-Ups Now Open for SSC’s Kids on Campus Summer Camps

Seminole State College will host its annual Kids on Campus summer camps for children and teens aged 5 to 17 across two sessions, offering a variety of activities. The camp is hosted by SSC’s Business and Industry program.

The first session of the camp will run from June 24 to June 27, with the second session scheduled from July 8 to July 11. Classes run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Individual camps take place in either the morning or afternoon. Lunch is available at the Student Union on campus, and lunch is free for participants of the all-day camp. The price of each camp ranges from $50 to $90, and an all-week option is available for $250. Each session features a range of themed camps tailored to different interests and age groups, including Outdoor, STEM, Lego, Ceramics and Art camps.

SSC Educational Foundation to Host Annual Spring Banquet

The Seminole State College Educational Foundation will host its 29th Annual Spring Banquet on Thursday, April 25, at 6:30 p.m. in the Enoch Kelly Haney Center on campus. The event recognizes accomplishments by alumni, employees and students.

Former students Anthony Bowie and Doug Ogle will be inducted into the SSC Alumni Hall of Fame. Recipients are selected for their achievements while attending the College, as well as the contributions they have made in their professional careers. Nominations for inductees are accepted each year from faculty, staff, SSC Educational Foundation trustees and the public.
