Spring Honor Roll Recognizes SSC Students

Seminole State College has released the names of honor roll students for the 2023 spring semester. Three separate honor rolls recognize students for their academic achievements.

The President’s Honor Roll is comprised of students who maintain a perfect 4.0 grade-point-average in at least 12 credit hours of coursework.

Students named to the Vice President’s Honor Roll must have a 3.5 grade-point-average or better and no grade below a “C”.

The Part-Time Students’ Honor Roll is for students who maintain a 3.5 grade-point-average with no grade below a “C” in at least six, but less than 12 college credit hours.

Chickasaw Nation Legislator Lisa Johnson-Billy to Speak at SSC Commencement

Seminole State College will hold its 90th Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 5, for students completing coursework requirements for their degree programs. The graduation ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. inside the Raymond Harber Field House on campus.

Following the processional, Oklahoma State Representative Kevin Wallace (R-District 32) will offer the invocation. President Lana Reynolds will welcome guests and offer special comments.

SSC Students Inducted into Psi Beta Honor Society

Seminole State College’s chapter of the Psi Beta recently inducted ten new members into the honor society. Students inducted were: Emma Buchanan of Chandler, Taleigh Estrada of Meeker, Emilia Gates of Seminole, Alexis Goddard of Prague, Loralei Grills of Holdenville, Tara Pool of Shawnee, Timothy Heath of Shawnee, Abigail Ridley of Tecumseh, Hannah Ridley of Tecumseh and Carrie Yerby of Maud.

SSC Taking Applications for Engineering Camp for High School Students

Applications are now open for Seminole State College’s Peek into Engineering Summer Camp. The residential camp is open to high school students enrolled in 9th through 12th grade in the fall of 2023. Students will spend July 23-July 28 on SSC’s campus, learning how to build underwater remote-operated vehicles.

The camp is offered for free to students through a grant from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. Space is limited, so applying early is encouraged.

SSC Students Attend Promise Day at the Capitol

Eleven Seminole State College students attended Oklahoma Promise Day at the State Capitol on April 11. Students had the opportunity to meet with legislators and state regents to discuss the scholarship program. Students also met with a featured speaker at the event and Chair of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education Mike Turpen. Since its inception in 1992, Oklahoma’s Promise scholarship program has awarded college tuition scholarships to more than 100,000 students. To be eligible, students must apply during the eighth, ninth, tenth or 11th grade, and their family’s annual income must not exceed $60,000 when they apply. A student’s family income also must not exceed $100,000 each year the student is enrolled in college. Students must also meet academic and personal conduct requirements in high school.

SSC Honor Society Members Attend Regional Conference

Seminole State College recently sent two Phi Theta Kappa student officers, Abby Ridley and Hannah Ridley, alongside club advisors Andrew Davis and Edith Cathey, to the Oklahoma/Arkansas 2023 Regional Convention, hosted by Northeastern State University – Broken Arrow Campus. The conference provided leadership and community service training, and brought university admissions experts to provide students advice on transferring to four-year institutions. The conference also facilitated students across the region to meet and share ideas about the mission of Phi Theta Kappa.

The Seminole State College chapter of Phi Theta Kappa was also recognized with two certificates of merit for its ongoing engagement with the regional organization, as well as its commitment to providing its members leadership and scholarship opportunities and engaging in campus and community service projects.

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is an international organization that recognizes the academic achievement of college students and provides community leadership and service opportunities for its members. Students must complete 12 credit hours and maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher to be eligible to join.

Area High School Counselors and Administrators Visit SSC for Workshop

Seminole State College welcomed local high school counselors and administrators to campus for a workshop on March 29. During the event, a panel of SSC employees spoke and answered questions regarding academic placement, transcripts and financial aid.
