Former Trojans, Oklahoma State Senator Darcy Jech of Kingfisher (left) and SSC Board Chair Curtis Morgan (right) visit with their coach Lloyd Simmons (center) during a Higher Ed Day luncheon last week in Oklahoma City.  Senator Jech played baseball for then Seminole Junior College the first year that Simmons coached the Trojans.  Morgan was on Simmons’ NJCAA World Series teams in 1980 and 1981, when he received the National MVP award and the Trojans finished as runner-up.  The trio were part of a delegation of Seminole State College community and campus leaders showing Legislators grassroots support for Higher Education funding.

 

‘ABC Gang’ Reunites at SSC Basketball Game

Former Seminole State College stand-out basketball players Ray Alford, Anthony Bowie and William Childs attended the SSC Trojan basketball games on Monday, Feb. 17. The trio was known as the “ABC Gang” during their time playing at then Seminole Junior College.  They led the 1983 Trojan team to a second-place finish in the 1983 NJCAA National Tournament. SSC To Undergo Accreditation Site Visit Later This Month

Seminole State College will undergo an Accreditation Site Visit by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) on Monday and Tuesday, February 24 – 25. This site visit is a regular part of the College’s ongoing accreditation processes, representing a culmination of efforts over the last ten years. Fall Honor Roll Recognizes SSC Students

Seminole State College has released the names of honor roll students for the 2019 fall semester. Three separate honor rolls recognize students for their academic achievements.

The President’s Honor Roll is comprised of students who maintain a perfect 4.0 grade-point-average in at least 12 credit hours of coursework.

Students named to the Vice President’s Honor Roll must have a 3.5 grade-point-average or better and no grade below a “C”.

The Part-Time Students’ Honor Roll is for students who maintain a 3.5 grade-point-average with no grade below a “C” in at least six, but less than 12 college credit hours. Continue reading “Fall Honor Roll Recognizes SSC Students”

Expected Graduates of SSC’s Nursing Program Recognized at Pinning Ceremony

Seminole State College held a pinning ceremony at the Kelly Haney Center on Dec. 6 for nursing students expected to meet degree requirements this semester. Due to the program’s rapid growth, this event marked the first time the College has hosted a pinning ceremony in the fall. The following students were eligible to complete degree requirements and are expected graduates: Desiray Abney of Earlsboro, Talon Coleman of Holdenville, Kimberly Condit of Tecumseh, Jessica Cook of Seminole, Sabrina Harvey of Seminole, Whitney Keltch of Seminole, Allison Lukacsko of Wewoka, Meagan Machado of Seminole, Kelsi Massie of Shawnee, Addison McDonald of Seminole, Kelsey Miller of Newalla, Monicah Nduati of Norman, Carolyn Quinn of Norman, Donny Skaggs of Maud, Bailee  Tucker of Okemah and Cindy Velasco of Ada. Okemah Eighth Grader Discovers a Passion for Robotics at GEAR UP Camp

Ariel Blackwood, an eighth grader and GEAR UP participant at Okemah Middle School, has found her passion with robotics. Blackwood and her sister Rose along with 145 middle school age students had the opportunity to attend the Seminole State College GEAR UP summer camp in May 2019 that emphasized learning experiences in Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) and included building and assembling roller coasters, robots, and drones.
