In an early observance of Earth Day, Seminole State College President’s Leadership Class members heard from environmentalist and filmmaker K.C. Shulberg, watched a screening of his documentary “The Urgency of Now” and then picked up trash across the SSC campus. “The Urgency of Now” explores the destruction of Hurricane Ian and features interviews with scientists, educators and public officials about the effects of climate change.

Seminole State College Trojan softball players joined members of A League of Their Own at the Avedis Foundation Adaptive Field, located within the Brian Crawford Memorial Sports Complex on April 8. The League is a co-ed softball league established to provide an avenue for individuals with cognitive or physical disabilities to play baseball. Seminole State College students, faculty and staff gathered outside the E.T. Dunlap Student Union for a solar eclipse watch party on April 8. Everyone in attendance was given a pair of glasses designed to protect their eyes for the direct observation of the sun.
Director of Student Activities and event organizer Melinda Sims passed out gift bags. Student Activities leaned into the theme and provided Sun Chips, Moon Pies, and Eclipse gum to attendees.
Sign-Ups Now Open for SSC’s Kids on Campus Summer Camps
Seminole State College will host its annual Kids on Campus summer camps for children and teens aged 5 to 17 across two sessions, offering a variety of activities. The camp is hosted by SSC’s Business and Industry program.
The first session of the camp will run from June 24 to June 27, with the second session scheduled from July 8 to July 11. Classes run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Individual camps take place in either the morning or afternoon. Lunch is available at the Student Union on campus, and lunch is free for participants of the all-day camp. The price of each camp ranges from $50 to $90, and an all-week option is available for $250. Each session features a range of themed camps tailored to different interests and age groups, including Outdoor, STEM, Lego, Ceramics and Art camps.

OG&E employees and Seminole State College students planted 10 trees at the Brian Crawford Memorial Sports Complex on April 4. As part of the company’s environmental stewardship program, OG&E donated 10 oak and cypress trees to SSC, as well as 40 trees to the City of Seminole. The company also gave away 90 trees to the public.
SSC students in the Fundamentals of Soil Science class assisted with the planting of the trees at the sports complex.
