The Seminole State College Board of Regents met Dec. 12 for their monthly meeting. The Board approved a resolution banning firearms on campus, approved a revision to a Board policy concerning accreditation, approved entering into an investment grade audit agreement with Energy Solutions Professionals and approved the academic calendar for 2020-2021.
The meeting opened with a review of the College’s recent expenditures. Then SSC President Lana Reynolds presented her President’s Report, which included a personnel update, proposed meeting dates for 2020 and information about campus activities.
Three action items and one item on the consent agenda were approved by the Board. First, the Board approved a resolution banning firearms on the SSC campus. This action is a response to a request from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education (OSRHE) to reaffirm the College’s commitment to opposing guns on campus. The SSC Student Government Association recently passed a resolution concerning a firearm ban on campus, which was provided to the OSRHE.
Second, the Board approved an update in the name of the nursing program’s accrediting body. The Board changed the title of the nursing group from the National League for Nursing to Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing in Board Policy I-3-1.
Third, the Board reviewed and approved entering into an investment grade audit agreement with Energy Solutions Professionals (ESP). A sub-committee of the Board, including Chairman Curtis Morgan, Regent Kim Hyden and Regent Bryan Cain met with SSC Vice President for Fiscal Affairs Tony Crouch and President Reynolds on Nov. 22, 2019 to further review options regarding deferred maintenance issues and explore energy cost-saving measures. The group recommended that the Board proceed into the proposed investment grade audit.
The Board also approved one item on the Consent Agenda, the ratification of the 2020-2021 Academic Calendar, which will be submitted to OSRHE.
Board members present at the meeting were: Curtis Morgan, Marci Donaho, Ray McQuiston, Bryan Cain and Kim Hyden.
The next regularly-scheduled SSC Board of Regents meeting is set for Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020.
